waterpond plants lilies and grass

Things you the homeowner can think about before stopping in to Kulaks Nursery.

1. What is the location you have in mind for building your pond?

Ponds should be a focal point. Can you see your pond from your patio or deck? Is it visible from your kitchen or living room window? Is the area close to electricity? If not how do you plan on getting electricity to your pond? We do suggest that you have your pond on its own circuit.

2. How large of a pond are you considering?

Ponds that will be built to over-winter fish need to be at a depth of 24 inches. Fish can safely survive at this depth. This is also the maximum depth for most town ordinances that does not require any kind of fencing to be installed around the pond. Keep this in mind when considering depths above 24 inches.

3. Will you be adding plants and or fish?

Plants are an excellent way to help in filtering your pond. The most ideal places to put pond plants are in an area that has movement, ie: the waterfall, stream, or near the filter. Some suggestions are: umbrella grass, papyrus, water hyacinth, and iris. All of these plants are available for purchase at our garden center.
